How did you apply for your IRD number?
We do not have a permanent address yet (only a holiday home) and were wondering if it's best to wait till we get to NZ?
Also if we wait till we get to NZ will this cause problems if it is delayed when we start work?:no
Can anyone help?

You can find all the details here IRD Numbers (http://www.ird.govt.nz/how-to/irdnumbers/).
I would apply as soon as you can so that you have them before you arrive in NZ if possible (they normally take 2-3 weeks).
If you start the process but get to NZ before you get them, then you can always phone them up and find out your number (and get the address changed).

Hi Ian
So should we put our UK address on the form?

Hi Ian

If you are still going to be at that address or have mail redirected from it, then yes I would put the UK address - as I said before you can always phone them up to change the address later.

Yes it will. Somebody at work didn't get his by the time the payroll ran, so he didn't get any money that month.:(
Apparently they cannot pay you without an IRD number.
