Hi everyone
My daughter is coming to NZ for a visit in March :clap :clap .
We have booked a flight to christchurch as she has never been and I expected she wanted to drive around and up to some wineries north of CHch. But no she tells me she would like to do some walking. As I will be with her this will have to be Easy to Easy/moderate tramps.!:roll any suggestions.
Would like to do something on the peninsula, but not the full 3-4 day Akaroa walk. Is there a way to just do a part of it?
Any suggestions for the best walk to give us the
views and scenery without killing mother?

there are some lovely walks around here (waimakariri )through native bush - glen tui & Mt Thomas , however they are not to be done from jan - april because of major wasp infestations - wherever you walk check the doc websites for various hazzards/ up to date info .
We have found that tracks marked easyor good path ways are actually not & can be rather rough in places .

Arrgh, yes! As a self-certified Spheksophobe :D I had the afternoon from hell after being told of a local walk at View Hill (nr Oxford). I spent the entire afternoon in the car in a state of terror as the car wound up the farm track, and immediately down, because we drove through forests in which the tree trunks were swarming with wasps (not bees.. wasps..). Looked like there was a black lichen on the trunks that they were attracted to. Because we had to stop and open and shut farm gates en route... nearly had heart attack each time car door was opened... :wah
I now stay away from forests during Jan - March for that reason. I know not all forests are affected but I just daren't take the chance. :no

There are some fabulous walks out of Arthur's Pass village - some as little as an hour. We did the Bridal falls walk which is not particularly strenuous and the scenery is great. There are longer walks but my kids weren't up for it.
There are also some signposted routes up on the Port Hills which offer pretty spectacular views of the harbour and Christchurch. We drove up and parked so being already up the hill the walking is pretty flat so easy going.
