Hi to all,

Ive just started gathering info now I've realised that 130 points is ok to try!
I'm a primary teacher and all the family had such a great time last Easter in NZ we are looking into moving. Bit worried about living costs due to wage drop. At mo I only work 3 days and Hubby well paid here, but probably won't be able to get as good in NZ. On plus side, probably wont need mortgage.
Any advice about the teaching positives in NZ or the cost of living vs salary drop would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There have been many discussions regarding budgets, cost of living etc, use the search option to find posts of interest.

If you are coming to NZ to work full time as a teacher and you won't have a mortgage or rent to pay out then, IMO you shouldn't have any problems.

Which area are you planning on moving to?

Hi guys and welcome to the forum.

Not sure how much you can expect to earn as a teacher but this might give you an idea as to the cost of living.

I am also completely unable to be of any help at all;) but I think it come down to a lifestyle choice at the end of the day.
IMHO if your moving all that way it should be for more than the dollars:D

Thanks for the welcomes. :D

Obviously it is not just about the dollars but we don't want to move from the position where we are now and have got time to see each other, to one where we are working so hard to keep afloat (we've been there for the past 15 years) that we don't enjoy it.

I have done a living cost calc. and it would seem from that that we would be fine but when we stayed in NZ the prices of things didn't seem to be so much cheaper in relation to me losing 1/3 of my pay and hubbie on 1/2 as much.

Of course the great benfits of the sensible approach to life and efficiency of NZ people, to name but 2 attributes, was evident in our short stay as of course the landscape activities etc.....etc........is why we are thinking of this.

I think I've been in the UK TOO long already and have the attitude to get everything PC and 100% sorted rather than give it a go.Institutionalised! and brainwashed. Help me recover.:laugh
