Hello!

We are leaving on Feb 11th and all of a sudden it looks like we might be able to let our house here in Stratford from some time as early as 27th Jan (earlier if these prospective tenants are to be satisfied! =D ). So we could need about two week's accommodation, but I'm not sure of the starting date.

I am trying to think creatively as I don't want to spend much money! =D

These look like our main options, please let me know if can think of others :nice1 :

1. get a Travelodge type of room - best if you can book WAAAYYY in advance otherwise not very economical really plus we'd have to either have pot noodles :no or eat out every day & night :no
2. B&B - same as Travelodge but at least we have one meal sorted!
3. try and find a VERY short term room on Gum Tree - I have seen a few potentials and they would be much more economical than a hotel room
4. stay with a friend - not ideal as it is already a very stressful time
5. caravan - but not this time of year!! :laugh

Thank you =)

Thought about a backpackers hostel?

slightly silly suggestion, how about a static caravan? there are plenty around from what I remember, certainly at Bidford and wooten wawen (unless the sites have been sold for housing now, its been a while since I was there)

At least they have heating, and good practice for NZ living anyway!

Hi Pookeko
We stayed in a holiday caravan (ie static on a holiday campsite) for some weeks before we left in November. It was really cold in the mornings, but they all have good gas fires and it soon got toasty by the time we'd lit the fire. They have kitchens and are kitted out with the basics so you'd have a home for the duration. They are very cheap this time of year, but the only drawback is most holiday sites have to close for 1.5 months of the year by law, so you might find it difficult to find one in January that can take anyone. The other alternative might be to offer to house sit for someone going on holiday?

Thanks for the great ideas :nice1

I haven't come to any kind of decision yet although I did look at all of the above (incl. lastminute.com & teletexthols for hols abroad before our departure date!! :D ).

I have drawn some comfort from the fact that we could probably spend one night (doss) at B'ham Airport (http://www.sleepinginairports.com/europe/birmingham.htm) if the worst came to the worst!!

There is also CouchSurfing (http://www.couchsurfing.com/) (not just young single people) which is free. And which I think is a brilliant idea. :)

How about trying one of those last minute holiday websites.....they usually have very good deals. I espeically remember that many of the centre-parcs self catering chalets can have fantastic last minute deals this time of year...worth a look! Also...remember you can always negotiate too. Alot of my friends do cheap post christmas holidays that way, as schools are back there is lowest demand of year Jan/Feb time!

Is there anyway you could change your flights ? Or are they non negotiable ?

Have you any relatives nearby that you could stay with ? For the last week we stayed with the in laws before flying out.

Last of all good luck, wouldn't like to be in your shoes right now :exit
