The EOI pool that is.

We have just about completed our EOI and it suggests we would have 130 points with no job offer. Obviously these points depend on if qualifications hold up under scrutiny etc. At the minute I am in discussions with a firm about employment. I have had them look at my CV and have had a few emails saying they want to contact me in a few weeks to arrange a phone interview and such. I have filled out a questionaire for them too. I am not so confident that lightening will strike twice as 12 months ago I was offered a job on the strength of a single phone interview and the firm offered to help with the migration process and with immediate short term accommodation, so I don't think it will be so easy this time. We didn't go as I suddenly found out I needed ear surgery and our house just wasn't selling.

Anyway enough digressing. We can't decide whether to submit on 130 points and hope we get selected or wait for a job offer that will almost certainly guarentee getting selected. Do 130 pointers routinely get through?

hi,
130 points may get you through but it depends on the time of year and the way your points are made up. At the begining of the year the first few selections tend to be 140 point and over or 100 and over with job offer. Later in the year it will drop. If you have point from qualifications and/or experience from the Long Term Shortage List you will be picked sooner. It might be worth looking back at last years picks to see.

cheers

Cheers Ian,

Is it possible to add a job offer to my application once it has been submitted, or would I have to re submit?

It doesn't seem that my skill trade is within the long term shortage list. I am a Telecommunications Engineer qualified in traditional telephone and modern Data comms. Something I have always felt to be under the ICT banner in the UK. ICT is in the future growth list but nothing lists my trade. Heart breakingly I am sure that Tel Eng's were on the short list last year. Perhaps we will wait for the job offer and hope they can hold on for me to get out there.

The only problem with that is I put our money into a share saving scheme with my current employer, one scheme is due to mature in a few months and it would be nice to hold it to then as the return would be far greater than if I just got my money back, the second one won't mature for another 2 years so I am not fussed about cashing in now, however I am not sure there would be enough money in that to pay for everything I had in mind without cashing the other one in.
We didn't think we would be at this stage so quick, having struggled with the house on the market for such a long time at the end of 2006 and throughout 2007, we managed to get rid of it faster than anticipated in October last year, quite unexpectedly. We are in a situation where it feels like it is just within our grasp, and my OH has really come on board after some long talks about what we can actually do with our lives but then I don't want to make financial decisions that might not leave us with as much money as we would like on the off chance that we can speed the process up.

You can add a job offer to your EOI once submitted. From memory you just need to send a copy of the job offer to Immigration. But remember that the EOI is only good for 6 months and then you have to resubmit

your current points total would have been selected in October 07 (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/10583A7D-AD6F-49C5-936A-5542FF4E99ED/0/FactSheet20071024.pdf) for example. It is hard to predict if and when though. Those with skills or qualification on the LTSSL are selected move regulary.

Good luck

Many thanks for the info, looking at the recent draw we have decided to hold out for a job offer, just in case.
