I'll be filing taxes here as I'll be working here less than a year and should receive some tax back. Does anyone know if I get an end of year form from my employer, or what tax forms to fill out?

Cheers,
Susan

Not sure if this has been already answered for you, but if you earn Salary & Wages you can contact IRD to get a Tax Return to complete for the 07/08 tax year. In NZ Salary & Wage earners do not need to file an annual tax return.

If you are resident for the full tax year (1 April to 31 March) and your only income has been tax at source (ie PAYE or withholding tax from income) call the IRD and ask for a "personal tax summary". IRD will then issue you with a calculation for the tax year requested based on the information they hold, which should include your employment wages/salary and PAYE paid and any bank interest details they have. They then ask you to check it to make sure all your income is included. If it isn't get in touch with IRD and ask them to make any adjustments required. Once you are happy it's correct and complete let IRD know and if your due a refund they will send you it :clap . If you owe IRD then you need to pay up ! :wah

If you are not resident for the whole year or have income from which tax has not been deducted, you are required to file a tax return for the year. For your employment income call IRD and ask for a "summary of earnings" to be sent to you. This will detail you employment income and PAYE deducted, which you can then enter on your income tax return.

Generally if you have been an employee for part of a tax year you are likely to have overpaid income tax due to PAYE being calculated on an "annualised" basis.
