Hello, :P Mrs Xmas here!!
Since we are sitting up at 3am Jetlagged and getting excited over a last minute call from NZ nursing agency, (which we got on the way back from last weeks trip!) can anybody share any experience or tips for telephone interviews. Got the chance of an exciting job in Auckland and need to impress the Health Board tomorrow.
Primarily in the Nursing field and related questions that may crop up re the Treaty of Waitangi, cheers. :cheers
Many thanks, Sophie :nice1

Hi Sophie,
Don't worry yourself too much telephone interviews tend not to be so indepth, according to other peopel I've spoken to.
I personally didn't have a telephone interview for my nursing job - it may help to post the hospital or health board name as I know there are a number of Nurses that visit this site whao may be of more meaningful help.
I Hope this is right and it is only my interpretation of the document I recieved from my health board. ( please don't be on my case those out there who may know better)
The treaty realtes to Fairness, respect and integration of Moari beliefs and cultures in NZ Including land rights, access to services etc to suit their cultural needs and beliefs etc (to cut it short and in my limited knowledge of the subject). What they may need to know is that you are aware of the treaty and the equal status and treatment of Moari people in the health care system taking Family as the key to Health and recovery.
I do hope this has helped even a little bit
Let us know how it goes
Love
Lindaxxxx

Just spotted this on the Childrens page at Christchurch Library (link from another tread).
It is a description of the treaty for kids, thought it might be short and concise for you if you wanted it.

Again good luck

Hi Mrs Xmas
Be cool and calm about your forthcoming interview. I had mine in July last year with ADHB and it was very chatty and easy going.
Mind you, I totally stressed myself before the phone call, wow wot a long day that was waiting for the phone to ring - never before have i had an interview in my jarmies.
I think the object of the interview is to find out how well prepared you are for the move and to prove how well you might settle once in NZ.
My referees had quite indepth questioning regarding my qualities as a practitioner etc.
Good luck, PM me if you need any more info.

Hi
Eric is an optometrist. He had a telephone interview for his job here. Although it was not with a health board and he did not have to recite the treaty of waitangi it was an experience!
The interview was arranged via e-mail. His now boss telephoned promtply at 8pm as arranged. He initally spoke to us both telling us the pro's and con's of Whangarei and then spoke to Eric for an hour and half! I then spent 40mins talking to his wife (also business partner) about various immigration factors and Whangarei etc, since they had moved themselves from Scotland 18 yrs before!!
It was a relaxed conversation on all parts and Eric was offered the job within about a week!!
Good luck with your interview, I am sure they realise the difficulties and stresses of conducting interviews this way. You could always enjoy a bottle (maybe glass) of wine at the same time!!!
Best wishes
Amanda

Linda,
Captain here - sorry, but we've been away for a few days.
Thursday (formal interview) went well, even though Mrs X was a bit shell shocked with the dreaded Jet-Lag.
We just picked up an email from the lady at the agency who is making lots of positive noises and is amazed :nice1 at how quickly things have progressed. We are forwarding reference details and pending that result may well see an offer.
Now we have to deliberate over the Auckland vs Rest of NZ argument, and 'are we rushing in too fast?' and 'should we hold out for our first choice location?' thoughts. :?
Out of interest how are you and Ali finding the big city, is the congestion anything like what we are used too? We have never spent quality time with Auckland, having plenty of Rellies elsewhere.
So overall the going is good, :yes

Rich n Sophie,
Glad the interview went well :hopeso you get an offer very soon.
You do hear a lot of negative things about Auckland - yes it is a city and covers a large area BUT the suburbs are gorgeous and beaches beaches everywhere.
It is true that the countyside and other areas in NZ are more beautiful and quiet but the city isn't that noisy, poluted or congested as it may be portrayed.
We haven't had ANY problems - odd slow traffic when the Big day out concert was on - but not too stressful.
I can't say whether it is better or worse here than anywhere else - I have only been here 4 weeks and travelled minimally really.
But so far it is fine not anywhere near what we expected after the negative things we had been told.
I'm sure this'll spark the North V south and Auck V anywhere else debated but I'm afraid I'm a bit biased!!!
