Hi all.

After looking to emigrate for over 2 years now, the job offer came through last night. :raebanana Completely unexpected, after so many false alarms. Now the mild panic is starting to set in. Hand in notice, push the estate agents to sell out house quickly, get visas etc - you all know; you've been there.

Now I'd been looking to move the family to Wellington, but the job ooffer came through for Auckland - don't get me wrong, that is more than fine!:D However, I don't know where we should live.

The company I will be working for is based in Mount Wellington, and we'd like a "nice" suburb with good schools for a 6 year old daughter (2 year old can just play at any play school).

Can anyone recommend anywhere decent? We'll be renting for first year, and when PR comes through, will look for a plot to build on, but that is in the future!!

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Hi Guys, can't help with specifics but people do rave about a book about where to live in Auckland. Know time is of the essence for you though so hopefully people will be answering you soon. Good luck with everything.

Was gonna suggest the book...but realised somweone else already beat me to it....very useful read for overview of areas...but remember that all areas have their better worse bits.

If you gave people an idea of how much NZ$ you want to spend in total on land/house you might get more suggstions as this will make a big difference on where you can afford to buy! There are some big variations in price around Auckland.

Mt Welly, I would prob try and stay in St Johns, Kohimarama, St heliers, they are very nice suburbs and have prices to match... Panmure might be an idea too.

A bit further out to the east is Howick area (where I am) it would take you about 20 mins or so to drive to work and its also a nice area to live, not quite as pricey as the previous areas I mentioned.

A slightly cheaper option might be Onehunga/Green Lane/ellerslie, but I dont really know what that are is like to live in... someone round here lives there though, so they might be able to help.

Cheaper still would be Glen Innes, but you need to be careful with which street you chose, some are not that desirable... (well to be honest, they are rough!) I have friends that live there and they dont walk down certain areas.
