Police in Tauranga concerned at the number of spectators turning out to watch boy racer burnouts
24 January 2005
Tauranga police have voiced concern over the hundreds of spectators turning out to boy racer burnouts.
At the weekend, onlookers in cars watching a burnout bolted in all directions when police arrived.
Several cars crashed into each other.
Senior Sergeant Lester Polglase says eliminating young spectators would help address the problem.
He says so far the Bay of Plenty has been lucky there has not been a serious injury at a burnout.
