Hi All,

My husband has an interview next week for a job which would be based at Tauranga hospital so I'm thinking we'll probably be looking at living in the Greerton/ Gate Pa/Bethlehem areas. The type of job I do is more likely to be based in Mount Maunganui so I have a couple of questions:
- how long would it take to commute by car from the areas I mentioned to mount maunganui, what's the traffic like? Is there public transport?
- are we looking at the right areas - would we be better living on the mount with my husband doing the driving to the hospital?

We want an area where we can get reasonable housing for $300k to $350k ( we don't mind if we have to do it up a bit), a good nursery for our 10 month old son and a gym / swimming pool nearby.

I was hoping to be able to get rid of my car when we moved to NZ and just be a one car family - I had this great idea about walking / cycling to work rather than the motorway journey I do now but I'm starting to think that's not going to happen!

Any insight gratefully received.

After living in Tga for a while, i can confirm that even this sleepy town has its fair share of traffic jams.

The Mount and The hospital are a fair way apart from each other so you could try looking at somewhere 'sort of in the middle' - such as Welcome Bay?

From Welcome Bay there is a quick road going to the Mount - saves driving through town, and from the Welcome Bay roundabout you can head the other way into Tga towards the hospital via Greerton.

There is public transport - this is provided by the bright yellow Bay Hopper buses, though i cant tell you the frequency or cost of their service.

Anything else - just shout! :)

I was checking out the Tga area and read on this forum that they have lots of problems with street racing. Is that still the case??

BaggiesFans - PM me, i've got a great map of tauranga showing the areas to consider and not consider - we're moving there next month and were given the map by the mayalls who run an excellent service for immigrants - see www.nzemigrate.co.nz for details
