My OH signed for an ITA this morning, it's a bit quicker than I anticipated and now the serious bit starts, funny feeling in stomach, especially since if I go all the way, I'll have no job, want to change career, never been to NZ (yet), taking 4 kids (oldest is adamant she's not going), having to leave 1 cat and 2 dogs, my parents think I'm mad.

Ouch - difficult with your oldest. How old is she, and isn't it possible to take the animals? I do hope things work out for you and the whole family wil be happy.

The oldest is nearly 15, so we're going to have to leave after her GCSE's.
1 of our dogs is 11 so she'll be too old by then (if she's still alive) and the other who's 18 months is already lined up to go to a friend who ardore her, they already call round to borrow her take her for a walk and look after her when we're away (she's a little yorkie). As for the part time cat?
I'll just need to trawl through older posts to find out the best way of getting all info together.

... you're not alone, I had a ding-dong battle with my parents last night with regards our planned move... accussing me of being mad, selfish and anything else that springs to mind  ... my reply each time... "do you honestly think we're going to hang around in the UK any longer than we have too" :exit

The country's sinking and it's nothing to do with all the rain we're getting!!!

We're in the early stages of our move, so plenty more fun and games from parents

Keep the faith... you're only on this planet once :)

Yes, its difficult in dealing with the parents. The usual responses have been noted above, My father-in-law is still convinced its just a pipe dream and we arn't going at all. Last night my future employer rang up to congratulate me on finally accepting the job in wellington as opposed to Auckland. Just got to sell the ole house now, but the market in cheshire seems to have slowed down a bit.

We've found that friends have been more supportive and excited than our respective parents.

Kind regards

River11 & Woolfie, I see you're both from Cheshire... ditto... there'll be none of us left at this rate :laugh

With regards selling property, we're in the same position only trying to sell our farmhouse in France (Vosges region)... slow going, but keeping our fingers crossed for a sale by early/mid Spring :roll

Youre not mad !, lifes too short Im a firm believer that things always work out for the best. You only live once so you have to grab opportunities such as these when they come.Im in a similar situation, never been to New Zealand, lots of hurdles to get across, only have 2 kids though!,but Im sure things will come together.OH just got job offer tonight,so thats a start for us.
