I probably know the official answer to the question but it seems an interesting discussion*. My ex wifes sister is a New Zealand resident. I wouldn't consider her as close family enough to try and claim points from this fact, but I have just been advised by another friend over there to put her down on the EOI. Although I have remained friends with my ex wifes sister, and we have made plans to meet up if/when we get out there, especially when my eldest son (her nephew) visits me I wouldn't consider her close family, even if I was still married to her sister, I would feel uncomfortable doing it anyway. In fact I am almost positive that 'close family' means sibling, parent or child in this case. Unfortunately I am struggling to navigate the NZIS site to find the correct working to end this discussion with my friend. I can see his motives for wanting us to press on with the EOI but this only came about when I told him we were holding off submitting the EOI until I have a job offer as I only have 130 points.

* At least it was until about 5 mins ago :laugh
