I am hoping to help a friend of ours move to NZ - and so have a few queries that some Primary school teachers may be able to assist me:

My friend has a Bach Primary Education Degree with majors in Early childhood development - from South Africa. Would her qualifications be recognised and would they have to be assessed by NZQA. Is there somewhere where we might be able to llook for positions that might be available - we dont want to deal with any agent. Her OH is Electrical Training Practitioner and is a qualified electrician and has a diploma in the training department. Could anyone please give us some idea of where we can look for something for the two of them to join us - we leave on 16 March :clap and would love to assist other friends in coming over - even though Im not there yet!!!

Thanks again - I know someone will always offer some great advise

Tks
Jayne

Hello Jayne,

Try here for info. regarding teaching in NZ

http://www.teachnz.govt.nz/

They'll tell you what you need, will usually be NZQA qualification assessment and registration with the Teachers council. If they recognised the Early childhood major as equivalent to the diploma here then that job is on the absolute skills shortage list so extra points!
Best place for jobs seems to be

http://www.edgazette.govt.nz/vacancy.php

But from other posts by the knowledgable crew here some jobs are locally advertised instead, so it may be a case of getting over to NZ.
They should also check the NZIS website and check her OH qualifications as they might be good for the points needed.

Good luck with it,:)
