Can anyone tell me if your case officer contacts you once they've looked at your file and done the relevant work on it or as soon as it is allocated to them?

Our ITA was submitted on the 21st Sept. and the current processing times states that up to the 11th Jan they are allocating files from the 3rd October.

Should we have heard from them by now or is this normal?

We didn't hear anything from our Case Officer.

Our ITA arrived at NZIS on July 9th. On November 5th (almost 4 months later), I finally lost patience and decided to call the premium rate number. £15 later, I found out that we had been assigned a Case Officer called Rebecca Oliver. I'm not sure when we were assigned, but it was a relief to know that it was now in someone's in-tray.

That evening, I sent her an email introducing ourselves. I got a reply back the next day (November 6th) saying "your application is still being processed". That was the last contact we had.

It's a very slow and frustrating experience!

We submitted our ITA 19th September and heard just about 5 days ago we had been assigned a case officer. She emailed me introducing herself and asking for clarification on something.

We were never "officially" given a case officer. We had an email asking questions re a medical issue, told that it was being referred. we dealt with that and then was told that we had an interview. Following that we were awarded PR. It has been a VERY long winded process (we submitted the EOI in May 2006). There is nothing that can be done to speed it up. I wish you all the luck and lots of patience.
