Has anyone found their asthma or eczema has got worse/better or stayed the same in New Zealand? Could you also say where you are in New Zealand given the ranging climate out there.

My OH's asthma got worse when she moved from Merseyside to the Lake District. But she tends to find on holiday more sunshine makes her eczema clear up.

Hi,

We live on the Kapiti coast near Wellington, I have found that my eczema has got better since we moved to NZ 9 months ago :raebanana .

I also use some fantastic cream called Medihoney which you can buy in Holland & Barrett. I haven't managed to find any cream here yet so I get family to stock up for me.

Kind Regards
Mrs Beano

I have found on the whole both my asthma and ezcema are better here in NZ. We are in Auckland...and there are a few factors I have noticed that make a difference.

My asthma has been better pretty much all the time apart from inside the cold damp unheated house we spent last winter in. I think it was mould spores giving me problems as when we went out anywhere I was fine. There is alot less air pollution here compared to UK (even in Auckland) and i'm sure that has made a difference.

My excema has improved alot here...not sure if it is the climate or just a different lifestyle. We spend more time outdoors so plenty of fresh air to skin plus UV light here is stronger which can improve skin for some people too (UV light does make a difference for me personally...I had PUVA treatment before when my skin got really bad and it helped alot). Also houses here don't have UK style central heating which is known for drying out your skin. The only time my skin seems to flare up now is on very humid days when it gets really sticky in Auckland. When we were in Canterbury recently, although it was actually hotter it was much drier and my skin improved alot in just a few days :)

MY OH suffers from eczema, has all his life, (lived in auckland all his life except for 14 years in Canada) went away in Canada, now we are back here and his skin is erupting whenever it gets humid, which is often during an Auckland summer.

Thanks for the replies. It's quite mixed so far, which prompted me to add a multiple choice poll to the thread. My OH isn't expecting a cure as such from moving to NZ but it would be nice for her to get out there and live a bit more comfortably. If it makes it worse then we would have to consider moving back.
