Hi, We've been in NZ for about 2 months now and are gutted by the high price of rents so are considering buying (fixer-uper). Has anyone from the US managed to get a mortgage at US interest rates from a US bank for a house in NZ? I have a friend from another country doing it here in NZ, but am not sure any US banks would go for it. The way interest rates are in NZ, I'd much rather get a US loan!

Any advice/experience appreciated!

Given the state of the US mortgage market I would be surprised if you could do this but let me know if you do it. We went with a NZ mortgage...

Of course a move such as this would be a bet on the future USD/NZD exchange rate more than anything else...
