Hi,
my wife is just about to finish her three year nursing diploma and will register as a nurse in the UK in March.
She has heard from someone at work that they don't take diplioma level nurses but only those that have a nursing degree. Are there any nurses out there that may be able to confirm/deny this statement??
Thanks
Nick

Im a 3rd year Nursing student in the UK.
I have been in regular contact with the Nursing Council of NZ and health boards and have been told that if I gained registration in the UK then it would be sufficient to gain registration in NZ.
One area of concern is the Nursing graduate programme that newly qualified nurses in NZ do. Still trying to get my head around it to see what im supposed to do because we intend to move to NZ as soon as I qualify.
My wife is a Nurse (10 years) and already has her NZ registration. So it might be easier to find jobs if their are two of us.
I am still worried that this graduate programme is gonna be a bit of a problem.
However regarding your issue about registration in NZ your wife should get it. Phone the nursing council and ask them?

Hi
You will need to send a transcript of your nursing course - diploma or degree to be evaluated by the Nursing Council of New Zealand. Quite an easy or lengthy thing to get depending on when or where you trained, and then send onto NCNZ.
The advice I have been given, and I have managed to register and been offered a job, is that if your training transcript provides an equivalent amount of hours both practical and theorectical in each element of their training courses - all will be well.
It is correct that the NZ training is degree based, but my post graduate Bsc (Hons) on top of my original diploma didn't hold any magical quality - dont worry, though I think they might like to see some post reg experience - and probably a wise thing to get that sort of confidence from nursing after finishing your training.
All is possible!

Thanks for the replies, my wife has sent for the forms and is going to register as soon as she has registered here, she hopes to get 3 to 6 months post registration experience prior to us moving to NZ, I was told this should be enough. She just got a bit panicked when her mate told her she would need the degree, not the diploma, but this seems not to be the case??
Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick
jam has said it all. Mrs Haggis4U also qualified in the UK and we are heading out to NZ shortly to take up job offer.
Nursing is in short supply, and hopefully your wife will get a job soon.
Best of luck. :nice1

We'll back up Haggis4u's comment. Zoe has had an informal job offer outstanding for some time. She's now going through the process of confirming it, just to speed things along. :nice1
