Probaby another dumb question, but I can't find a direct answer to this on the NZIS site. My husband's going to apply for a work visa so he can take up his job offer. Do I need one too just to get in, even though I'm not planning to work (one baby already and another on the way!)? I don't think I could manage on a tourist visa, because that would expire before OH's work visa. Confused? I am.
I've posted this question to the NZIS so when I hear back I'll put the answer on here, but thought this might be a shortcut to the truth!!
Thanks all

Hiya,
I'm 99% certain you will need a visa. I was advised to get my wife (also a non-working mum) a temporary work visa. It lasts 2 years and can be processed quite quickly (apparently in under 3 weeks).
Hope this helps. If you're unsure, call the high commission in London. You pay for the call, but its piece of mind that you're getting it right.

From the immigration website:-
Partners and dependent children of student or work visa/permit holders
Most partners and dependent children of student or work visa/permit holders can be issued with a visitor visa/permit for the same duration as their partner or parents' stay. However, this does not apply to you if your partner or parent holds a work permit granted under either:
* our policy for crew of foreign chartered fishing vessels, or
* Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) Work Policy.
If your partner or parent holds a work permit granted under either of these policies, you must meet our general requirements for a visitor visa or permit.
You have the option of applying for a work visa/permit or a visitor visa/permit, both of which would run for the same length of time as the principal applicant.

Mike, did you apply for your visa first, or submit both together?

Make sure even if you are an unworking partner you get work visa for minimum 2 years or you don't get all the free healthcare entitlements.

We applied for ours together.
