Well we finally took our Chinchillas Zappa & Sherbert to their new home yesterday :( It was horrible, I feel so guilty leaving them in the UK while we jet off to NZ. The lady that had them sounded really nice on the telephone, but we were not that impressed with the state of her house..but I have to say the menagerie of animals she had looked really loved and well cared for; not sure what we were expecting but I guess we would not have been happy with whatever we had come accross.
I know this feeling will get better with time...think I need some chocolate :o

Oh how heart breaking for you. I bet though, she's one of those people who look after their animals much better than they look after their homes, or even themselves.
As you said, the other animals looked well cared for so I'm sure yours will be fine. Its probably harder for you than it is for them.
Keep your chin up.

We left my daughter's pet rats behind. The family also sounded lovely on the phone, but when they turned up, they were an entire family of death metal heads who ran a tattoo parlour. Even the 9 year old daughter looked scary, and they had a bulldog with them who looked suspiciously like one of the banned breeds. It was most off-putting, especially for my heart broken daughter. They probably were really nice really, but I know what you mean.

We had to give away our remaining hamsters and that was truly heartbreaking. Especially because you can't get them in NZ. We have a guinea pig instead, but in my mind it's no substitute for hams :no

Had to leave my gorgeous Grumps (ginger tom) behind - he went to good friends who send piccies and updates - it was really hard at first but we know he's well cared for and still as fat so it puts our minds at rest.
I think self-medication with chocolate is the best way..... :yes
