So when is residency permanent ??

We have finally (almost) completed the immigration process ... woohoo !! :cheers
- have had the application agreed 'in principle', basically now subject to us paying the final 'Migrant Levy' of $300 each to get the 'Residence Permit' stickers into the passports, which come with a 2 year(?) 'Residence Visa', which has to be renewed every time we leave the country - does this include holidays ?
Will we have to continue to purchase Visas indefinitely ??
Is the only way round this going for Citizenship ???

cheers

When you get your Visa it should be a 2 year RRV which means that you can come and go as much as you like for the next two years. The permit that you get when you enter the country will expire when you leave, but you will automatically be granted a new one when you re-enter NZ.

After 2 years (assuming you meet the rules) you will be able to apply for an Indefinite RRV instead (IRRV) which means that it will no longer expire.

The only ongoing costs after this are to transfer your visa to a new passport when the old passport expires.

You could of course then apply for citizenship if you prefer.

in addition to the above post which answers it all very well, you get PR permit with section 18 conditions attached for three months eg you have to work for the wmployer you said you would full time, after 3 months you send a letter from employer saying you have worked for them in xxxxx position for three months, add to this a letter saying you would like the visa conditions removed send them passportd and they issue you a new residence permit without the condition on it.
