We have just had OH diploma pre-assessed and it has come back as only a level 4 (certificate) :( and not the level 5 (diploma) we were hoping for. As it is not in a "recognised trade" we would not be able to claim the points for a level 4.
Has anyone else had their quals down graded on pre-assessment?
Are the pre-assessment levels quoted on the side of caution as they are not supported by evidence or are they fairly acurate?
Has anyone gone for a full assessment and found their assessed level went up from the pre level?
We hope that the latter is most common but we are begining to loose hope.

Dear NZDreamer
As our diplomas have essentially been down graded to a certificate in the eyes of NZQA, at this level it will only help us with point on our EOI if it is in a recognised trade such as carpentry, plumbing etc. which it is not.
Our Diplomas are for Energy Assessment which is a new profession in UK and an even newer profession in NZ (since Nov 07). We have been in touch with an energy assessing company in NZ and as far as they know NZQA don't recognise their quals at present. We are hoping that as soon as they recognise their own quals they will recognise ours.
Pre assessments are supposed to take upto 10 working days and it took exactly that for ours. We asked to be notified my email which speeds thing up i think.
As for how they will treat your quals I am affraid I am not experienced enough to answer that for you but someone should be along soon who can help you.
All the best

Hello!
My Nzqa Docs Arrived Nov.21, It States That My Level Is 7 However, I Think The One Made The Ita Get Confused (or Is It Me?) By The Major Of My Degree. I Stated That I Am An Electronics And Communcation Engineering Grad. But When Asked What 'short Listed Job I Belong To, I Wrote In Project And Mgmt Staff Which Is Both Present In It Technology And Electronics. In The Ita, They Want Me To Prove That I Am An It Technology Degree Holder (level 7) But I Am Not As Am An Electronics/comm. Also Level 7. What Should I Do About This? Should I Explain They Got It Wrong?
Pls Enlighten Me......

Dear wishing
If there is confusion between what qualifications you have and what NZQA/INZ think you have then you need to put the matter straight asap!!

Hi, I'm not sure how common it is but my hubbies qual. went up from level 7 on pre-assess to level 8 on full assess.
He has an HND and a PgDip but not the degree in the middle.....was all work experience.
Don't know if that helps or not.
Good luck.

Thanks Myrkk
We are hoping that its been down graded as a matter of caution because you dont back it up with evidence at the pre-assessment stage.
Its nice to see that some people have their level upped on full assessment.

we obtained course transcripts from the educational institutions he attended and included them with his full assessment. Not sure if that helped..... One of the reasons we did it was the place he went to no longer existed, it had merged with another institution and was renamed....... it was a long long time ago lol. So it gave an idea of what the course actually entailed in terms of education so they could compare it with whatever they compare it with to decide on your level of education.
