Hi there,

i have found the thread on here that explains a lot and for that i am very thankful.

i wondered if anyone else was thinking about the transfer from RAF to NZAF and how to go about it?

ANy advice and indication of wages, conditons, housing etc would be brilliant. Hubby is currently a Sqn Ldr.:cheers

Hi,

www.airforce.mil.nz will take you to the appropriate website and all details regarding pay and conditions can be found there. There is a particular sub section regarding overseas recruiting and this is worth looking at.

Hope this helps

NOw i must be thick but i can't find the pay scales on this website - and i've looked REALLY hard. Can you idiot-talk me through it. The overseas recruiting bit is out of date too and i don't want to contact them until i have a clearer idea of salary.

Spid, from what I understand, pay is a fraction of RAF rates. However, you'll still have the RAF pension (lots of transferees do this).

If you take a look here - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/uk_gov_pensions.htm - you can see that while usually you have to pay UK tax on a UK Government Service pension (which Armed Forces pensions are classified as), there is an exemption for NZ (amongst a handful of other countries).

I'm still unsure whether that means you have to pay NZ tax instead, or whether it is fully tax free.

Spid,

If the NZ RAF have equivalant rank/pay scales to the Army a Sqn Ldr/Maj would be on $72k starting but may be higher subject to job offer and so on. The Army website has these outline scales. Not sure if this helps.
