Hi
Does anyone know if you can go into a chemist here & speak to a pharmarsist for advice?
Looks like my 28 month old has chicken pox but would like it confirmed, don't like to bother a Dr as I'm pretty sure it is but would like someone else just to say es it is.
Thanks
Lindsey

Yes you can. I've found the pharmacists very helpful and I'm assuming they'll know what CP looks like, or do you have a HV or Plunket person you can speak to?

It's infectious though from a couple of days before the rash until scabby, what stage is your child at?

Hope little 'un is feeling better soon. :raebanana

Thanks for that
No HV or Plunket yet as only been here 2 weeks today & still in temp accom until 9th Feb, also been busy trying to sort midwife & scans out for me as 21 weeks pregnant so not much fun being cooped up in a 2nd floor apartment with 2 DVD's to watch over & over & over again. :(
We spotted the 1st spots yesteday, I thought just a couple of spots then the OH said she had 2 on her back & when we checked they had bistered so have been surfing & I'm pretty much sure it is. Not too many more this morning but she's a bit under the weather today.
Fingers crossed it will not get too bad & all be over by next weekend

Poor little thing, AJ had them not so long ago. The pharmacist will take a look for you. Things we used were Pinetarsol in the bath, and for a second bath of the day, we would use a cpl of tsps baking soda to help stop the itching.

We were about ten days from first spot to them all drying out and going scabby, at the end she will look pretty awful, but wont be infectious anymore.

Hugs (and non scratchy vibes to your DD)

Thanks Sal
I just wish we had a bath, apartment only has a shower & she hates it so screams galore at bedtime, trying to limit it to one every other day now so not to put her through too much
9 days to go & counting :yes

Aww she must be right fed up then (and you) :)

I'm just thinking out loud here, but do you have a balcony or a room with tiled floor that you can mop easily?

Get one of those small plastic sand pits/play pools and fill with warm water and the Pinetarsol Sal suggested. It may help sooth and occupy her at the same time, and keep her clean without the yelling!

Hope it passes soon.

You can also just use pinetarsol on wet skin. According to the bottle you leave it on skin for couple of minutes then lightly wash and pat dry.

Sorry we don't give advice here, just stand in the back of the dispensary and pretend to look important ;)

That and get our minions to make cups of tea!

....but seriously, by all means go and see your pharmacist, just be prepared to be sent to your doctor if needs be (not necessarily in this case, but generally!)

Thanks everyone
Went the chemist & spoke to the pharmacist who was the only person in the chemist by the look of it, got confirmation it was CP & some of that stinky pinetar stuff.
Now onto day 6, anyone know how long I have to keep her in quarantine for?
I've read 7-10 days after spots appear & I've got to wait for the last scab to drop off, which one?
She has scabs that are almost cleared up but still has spots which don't look to be doing much, maybe they will just fade as no more blisters have appeared, I'm hoping it's a mild case & he red spots will just go
Any ideas?

My DS had the dreaded lurgy recently and we were told to keep him out of contact until the last spot had scabbed.
We're still waiting for some of the scars to fade!!:roll

Kids! Aren't they wonderful?!:yes

You need to wait until the last blistery spot has dried out and got a scab on it, you dont need to wait until scabs have fallen off, although some folks do as the kids look sooo bad with all the scabs! Some of ours didnt blister, but kind of just dried out with a layer of skin peeling off the top.
