I have 9 years of experience in a profession on the long term skill shortage list, but do not have a degree so I don't have enough points. There are a ton of job openings in my chosen city (Wellington) so I think I would do well if I can get my foot in the door, but the question is - how?
Without 100 points I can't submit a EOI, and without a job offer I can't apply for a "Long Term Skill Shortage List Work Policy" work visa.
How do people get around this? Do you just go on a tourist visa and line up interviews while you're there? I've heard this doesn't work well. The only other option I can see is to go as a student and either spend the 2 years it would take to get a degree in my field (I have transfer credits to cover the first part) or find a job and drop out. I could get a degree here in the US first, but I'm anxious to move as soon as possible.
Any suggestions?
