So what's Napier like as a place? I see previous threads talk about the Hawkes Bay area in general, but haven't seen much about this area. Any thoughts or comments?

I haven't been there, but I do have some good friends that live there. That will probably be my ultimate destination, if I can find a job. I've heard it's quite lovely and artsy.

Others that I have talked to said it was a good choice.

Napier has an abundance of art deco buildings. Alot of the town was destroyed by an earthquake (which caused alot of house fires) on 3rd February 1931. As art deco was the fashion in those days alot of the buildings were built in this style. Even if you're not a great fan of art deco (which I'm not), it's still an attractive city.

Have visited there so can't give you any details about what it's like to live there, but I can tell you they have some wonderful public loos !!!! They were almost like a visitor centre :nice1
