I remember reading back in 2006 that Ikea were going to be opening a store in Auckland 2008.

Does anyone know if this is still going to happen?

Wikipedia says:

IKEA has purchased a site near Auckland to open New Zealand's first store. It is slated for an early 2009 opening and is owned by the franchisor of Perth+Adelaide.[48]

Am sorry to pour water on everyones excitement, but according to my employer (Furniture Court), Ikea have pulled out due to the lack of population around Auckland. He has it on good authority, as they were heading for Albany. If by any chance the tables are turned and they do decide to come in then i'm sure my boss will let me know, as i have educated him with the brand IKEA.

Am afraid it is, unless there is a major change in IKEA's way of thinking. Word i have is they had actually had it all in place, but pulled the plug about 2 months ago.
