So. What the stupidest/funniest/most laughibly innacurate think you've been told by somebody on the immigration help line.

We were told by a very unhelpful young man that the entire family needed a police check (I did tell him the ages of the kids 14, 10, 8 and 10months.). I asked "what, even the baby??" he replied "even the baby" !?!?!? :laugh

We laugh now some of the other stuff he told us was so far off that it held up my WP application being submitted by about 3 weeks.

Can anyone out there beat it?:p

Hi

We did actually have to get a police check for our 5yr old!
Seemed like a waste of £10 as we knew he obvioulsy had no record, but we were told by the Police in our hometown we had to too.

On the EOI & INZ site it states that anyone over the age of 17 needs a police check. I have not sent off for one for my 16 year old.

When we first came we were on a long term work permit and my oldest daughter school started school straight away. My youngest daughter was not due to start school for another six/seven months, which made it close to her vistors visa expiring. As the time got closer I phoned the "helpline" to ask whether it was best to extend her visitor visa or just go straight for the student visa even though it was a couple of months early. The VERY unpleasant woman on the phone was insisting that I would have to pay international school fees, even though I had explained to her that my oldest daughter was already at school and Ministry of Education had explained to me six months previously that as we were living and working here (and paying tax) we would only be liable for the school donation.

After that, any questions I had I went directly to NZIS in Cathedral Square.

this was not on the Immigration help line but I rang Air New Zealand regarding a question about sending our cats over only to be told that they only send them via Hong Kong as they would have to be finger printed if they went via LA. I fell about laughing and this girl insisted she was right. It turned out she was new in the job and her so called mates had told her this and she believed it and had been telling people this for a couple of weeks. Apparently I was the first person to query it :laugh

Sounds as though the people manning this 'helpline' are probably poorly paid, poorly motivated and poorly trained. I don't so much blame the personnel in the call centre - they're probably doing the best they can in a highly stressful environment for very little money. I do blame the executive and management that have placed them in that position.

Having said that there's no excuse for being rude...
