Hi All,
Hope someone may be able to assist me?
I currently hold a NVQ 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education. Has anyone had this converted by NZQA, if so what did it equate to.
Or indeed is it important to get it transferred at all? We do not need it for any points reasons, just with regards to getting work in a similar field.
Many Thanks,
Michelle.

Hi Michelle,
I don't hold an NVQ 3 but I do work in the early years field. If you are wanting to come over here and work as a qualified member of staff you will need to get your qualification assessed to see what it equates to over here. If you are qualified over here, you have to register with the teachers council and get a practising certificate which is valid for 3 years I believe. The teachers council usually use the findings of the NZQA assessment to determine whether or not you meet the criteria.
Hope this is a help?
PM is you want anymore details...I am still new to the Early Years thing over here myself!

Hi
Can I jump on this thread too?
I am in the final year of a Childhood and Youth Studies degree, and want to teach early years hopefully in NZ (still in early planning stage)
I contacted one of the Unis that offer the Early Childhood teaching qualification and they said I might be able to jump straight into year 3, once I have had my qualification assessed by NZQA.
I still don't know if I am being realistic wanting to study for a year in NZ, but I really want to work with the younger children, so don't want to spend several years here getting qualified if it won't be recognised as relevent to the age group I want to work with.
Any advise of info about working with young children appreciated. Are there many jobs for Teaching assistants, or is there the opportunity to study and work at the same time??
Sorry for millions of questions!
Helen
