How long to sell your UK house?

We have just put our house on the market and I was wondering how long it took others to get firm offers and also for completion? Sell too soon and you are homeless- too late and you fly half way round the world and still have to pay a UK mortgage but on NZ wages. Is our timescale of 8 months realisitic?

13 months (would you believe) but we were in no hurry and just hung out for a good price. The Estate Agent we were with was useless too.

Just got an offer this morning - the flat has been on the market for 4 weeks.
The offer isn't great (at 10% below valuation) but we've accepted it due to the fact the buyers are first timers so don't have a chain and so hopefully completion won't take all that long.

and an offer over the asking price of course - :laugh

I started a similar poll a while back and as you'll see the majority were sold within a month or still up for sale :(

Interesting though and still gives hope that you are bound to sell at some stage

Sorry cant see a section for less than 12 hours :D :D
We were incredibly lucky, the folks who bought ours had missed out on 2 before on our estate so were primed ready and waiting with cash in hand.
Offically went on the market at 9 in the morning and by 8 in the evening we had done the deal for full asking price, so so lucky.
Sending positive vibes for all those selling

We sold our UK property in August 2005, then moved to the Vosges region of France... we've had our French property on the market since July last year with viewings mainly from Parisians and Belgiums... it's a 100 year old farmhouse that's been converted into 3 separate apartments, so it's not your 'run of the mill' type property that sells quickly... afterall, this is France we're talking about :roll
Fingers and toes crossed that we'll have a buyer shortly before or after our NZ 'recce' trip in April :yes
Good luck to all with quick house sales :nice1
