Hello,

I wanted to enquire of the group: what are the best ways to move a single piece or a small set of furniture around the Auckland area? And by best I mean, "cheapest".

I ran into this problem due to the fact that I do not have a car and I need to cheaply furnish my new apartment. Trademe and the like are wonderful ways to buy furniture but the problem remains: how to get it back home.

Options?

- Only buy items that the seller will deliver (very limiting)
- Only buy items that will fit on my bike/back (very, very limiting)
- Find a mate with a ute/van (not found one yet)
- Find a mate with a car with a ball and rent a trailer (have not found one of those yet either, have rented a trailer, they are available from most service stations for about $20/2 hrs, min. charge)
- Pay for it (oh, cmon, I could resort to this but it's about $80/ 1st hour and ~120+ for a reasonable cross-town move, not a great option for 50$ couches)
- ???

I learned of a service called "fetch me" on one trademe auction, but a google of this has turned up nothing... To explain my frame of mind (and not to solicit for help), I should note that I would gladly pay 30-50$ for a one hour or less move.

I'd love to hear what people have experienced.

Byron,

It might help people if you put your approx location in Auckland (i.e ponsonby etc) that way people in that area that may be able to help can post or PM you

Why not rent a van or whatever for an hour or so?

There are loads of companies that rent them by the day and I'm sure they'd agree to a shorter period of time if that is all that is required.
