We have a towbar-mounted bike rack here in the UK, which clamps onto the towbar ball, and I want to know if it'll fit NZ towbars - anyone know if the towballs are a standard 50mm like over here? Also, while we're on the subject, are the electrical plugs for a lightboard (same as for a trailer) the same in NZ?

Thanks,

Will

I've found out the answer to my first question - yes, 50mm is standard, but 1 7/8" is still around... anyone know if the electrics will work? I imagine I could always buy a NZ-style connector and re-wire it if necessary...

Hi Will,

Yes you can get tow bar mounted bike racks - they are everywhere. Have a look at trademe...

The wiring looms are different (see Repco's latest catelogue, bottom left hand corner (http://www.repco.co.nz/services/jan08-2.html)). I have seen adapters though (I think Repco or Mega Mitre 10 might sell them) for the flat trailer adapter to the round plugs.

However, it doesn't seem to be law that the lights and number plate must be visible, which can make driving behind some cars difficult.

Good luck.
