Hi all, hope you don't mind but need a little rant!

Sent off all reg docs in August '07. Sorted out my potential professional and character referees, no problem. Prof reference received after 2nd attempt, both character references sent on Friday 25th Jan....3rd time lucky!?

I'd written a reference for one of my colleagues for a post that he applied for a few months ago, paying particular attention to job description and person spec, relating his current skills, knowledge and experience to the new skills required etc. He was kind enough to return the favour when I asked about a character reference. He sent me a copy of the ref that he'd done for me. As I began to read it, it sounded rather too familiar! He had basically copied and pasted my original reference for him and amended names and changed the 'he' to 'she'. :wah There's was no indication that he'd even read the document that I'd sent regarding requirements for the reference. He did, however, suggest that he'd 'read the job description and saw no reason why I would not be fit for the post'. Post, what post!?

I'm sooooooooooooooooooo disappointed. I feel really deflated and let down, not to mention panic stricken! Our roles were very similar so much of the phrasing was virtually identical to that which is cited in my CV, of which is included in the NZ Nursing Application!

Having steadily progressed through stages of frustration, panic, upset, disbelief and back to frustration, I decided that the best option was to explain to the Nursing Council and ask them to disregard his correspondence. I've also requested that an alternative reference be accepted.

The potential move to NZ is so important to me (us), and I love my work. I'm really worried that this may jeopardise my application!? I guess all I can do is hope that they see the honest, trustworthy side of me and act on my request. I'm truly committed to my work and would hope that this, amongst other things, would be reflected in the other references. Oh god, I'm really babbling now....sorry!

Think I've ranted enough, once again, sorry! :exit

Oh what a bummer. I am sure that they will understand. Especially if you are able to provide another reference. Have they received all your other documentation? It does seem a while since you sent it.

Hi Nicky

Yeah, I had a letter within a month to say that they had received my application and processing fee and were just waiting on the references. I know that one of the character references has been sent twice, now a third time. I had thought that the other one had but in the light of recent events, I'm not so sure how genuine the chap was! Originally said he'd sent it, then on the 2nd attempt he said the file on the computer was corrupted so would have to do again, then finally said that the laptop it was on was broken but did again!?

Very frustrating knowing that there's nothing I can do but ring them occasionally in the hope that they arrive!

... that is so frustrating  but I think you've done the right thing in advising NZNC to disregard his correspondence... I wish you all the best at resolving matters.

My wife has registered with Tonix Health Recruitment and they've been extremely helpful... I see you've also registered with a nursing agency, could they help out with matters?

With regards to NZ nursing registration... Tonix have advised that NZNC have a huge backlog at present and are currently taking 4 months for applications to be processed :roll

Good luck with everything.

:cheers Red Devil

Thanx for the reassuring post

I haven't mentioned it to the agency but might be worth it...will be updating my CV (Minus said referee!). Will explain why, they may offer some advice. Have to say, I've found them to be quite helpful in the past.

I know the references should be sent directly from the referee but mine gave them to me- sealed and I posted them special delivery. The only thing NZNC never received was the transcript that was sent directly. When I had to keep chasing them to see if they had received it, I contacted the nursing agency I was with and they chased it for me and hey presto - it was processed the next day. :)

I've just heard back from the NZNC, they're going to 'ignore' said reference and await alternative....sooooooooooo relieved! :raebanana

Thanx for the feedback and reassurance guys :cheers
