Hi all, hope you don't mind but need a little rant!
Sent off all reg docs in August '07. Sorted out my potential professional and character referees, no problem. Prof reference received after 2nd attempt, both character references sent on Friday 25th Jan....3rd time lucky!?
I'd written a reference for one of my colleagues for a post that he applied for a few months ago, paying particular attention to job description and person spec, relating his current skills, knowledge and experience to the new skills required etc. He was kind enough to return the favour when I asked about a character reference. He sent me a copy of the ref that he'd done for me. As I began to read it, it sounded rather too familiar! He had basically copied and pasted my original reference for him and amended names and changed the 'he' to 'she'. :wah There's was no indication that he'd even read the document that I'd sent regarding requirements for the reference. He did, however, suggest that he'd 'read the job description and saw no reason why I would not be fit for the post'. Post, what post!?
I'm sooooooooooooooooooo disappointed. I feel really deflated and let down, not to mention panic stricken! Our roles were very similar so much of the phrasing was virtually identical to that which is cited in my CV, of which is included in the NZ Nursing Application!
Having steadily progressed through stages of frustration, panic, upset, disbelief and back to frustration, I decided that the best option was to explain to the Nursing Council and ask them to disregard his correspondence. I've also requested that an alternative reference be accepted.
The potential move to NZ is so important to me (us), and I love my work. I'm really worried that this may jeopardise my application!? I guess all I can do is hope that they see the honest, trustworthy side of me and act on my request. I'm truly committed to my work and would hope that this, amongst other things, would be reflected in the other references. Oh god, I'm really babbling now....sorry!
Think I've ranted enough, once again, sorry! :exit
