Hi all,

I currently have 100 points on my EOI but havent got a job offer at the moment - Does anyone think it would be worthwhile putting the EOI in and hoping for the best without a job offer or would it just be a no go. Im still under 30 and would really like to be able to just go over to NZ and find a job once over there but im a bit unsure of how feasible that'd be...any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Tony

The lowest the draw has been in the last 12 months is 115 points, unless you have bonus points for something - work exp in skilled area, qual in skilled area - this is above the points only selection.

HI,

From my understanding of it all from when we put our EOI in, you are unlikely to be chosen with only 100 points. Although they do say those are the lowest points you can be chosen with, in practice the cut off point seems to be 115.

You'll also find that the first few draws of the new year have high points draws. This is due to the backlog over the festive period 'cause NZ seemingly closes down over this time and doesn't get back to normal until later in January. After a few draws it seems to settle back to normal.

Sorry the news isn't better. :( Hopefully someone will be able to prove me wrong.

I think I have finally found a way to add this file to the forum.
It should show all selection points for 2006/2007.

If I remember correctly recently there were draws recently that accepts EOIs with just 100 points. For example on a random check I found that the October 10th draw accepts EOIs with 100 points provided the applicant claims 10 points in qualifications or work experience in area of absolute skills shortage category.

It seems that the fastest way would be to show up in NZ, get a job or job offer, and apply for PR from within NZ. Otherwise you need lots of patience...

Kelvin

Yes, that was the bonus points part I very badly explained. If you have the exp/quals in a skilled area you will get selected in a reasonable time. If you have 100 points and none of these there is little chance.

In Nov 05 we got PR with a combined points total of 110 (and a telephone interview), so it does vary over time. Having said that, we could possible have squeezed some more points out of the system had I really tried, and my wife's job is also on the shortage list although we couldn't reflect that in the application (only the fact she had a degree which got us another 10 points), but could in the interview. At the time I never doubted we'd get PR - looking back on it now we were lucky to go through at the time we did.

Hi Tony & Kat, We put our EOI in expecting to wait for many months but we were selected yesterday! I have quals and experience in skills shortage job but no job offer and only 105 points. We're keeping our fingers crossed that its all correct, have wanted to move to NZ for years and years and finally the time was right. Do either of you have experience or quals from the skills shortlist ?- this is due to change in feb with more skills being added I think, all info is on the NZIS. Good luck!

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, and thanks to everyone else who has responded to our post. I have a qualification thats worth 50 points but not too sure if its on the skills shortage list. I think we may just submit the EOI and hope for the best, fingers crossed! I'll keep you posted on the progress!

Thanks
