Hi everybody, I'm thinking about going to NZ and study something IT related, 6 month maybe a year course, get a job and and work permit, then go for an engineering degree while working, I don't have savings for a 3 o 4 year career, but I can survive a year. I'm thinking it will be easier, I have some IT experience, more from the sales side. I'm 30, and study here in Chile while working...and wait 4 or 5 years to migrate...it's not an option and I don't think a diploma on IT from here will do nothing for my resume in NZ.
In your experience, which short course will make me easier to land a job? someone have experience in any Technology institutes there?
looking in seek.co.nz seems to be a lot of positions for .net,c# programmers.
Thx for help.

Hola Carlos, Como Estas?
I was considering going down a similar route to yourself, having also come from a IT sales background in the UK and considering getting back into the technical side.
I was considering doing a Cisco Certificate Network Associate course (CCNA) to try and get work as a network administrator. Or CompTIA's Network+ These can be done in a couple of weeks onsite, or 6-9 months by distance learning. You will definitely get work easier if you can back this up with experience though.
Look at the salary survey's in IT for NZ and you will find that network engineers are amongst the highest paid. Seems like a good career path to me. Later you could add MCSE whilst working or specialism's like network design or security.
Buena Suerte!
Jon
P.S I was in Chile for 1 month in Feb 2007!

Network and MCSE qualifications are good to have but done properly take a while and yes the pay is quite good for them ...
tho IMHO programmers pay is sometimes equal or better ... and the courses are shorter, tho you would have to keep up with the fast pace of change, things move (only slightly) slower in the network/systems field ...
most employers like you to have experience too ..
/catch-22 anyone ? :exit
