Hi
We'll be emigrating to NZ (one hour North of Auckland) in the next 2-3 months - house sale permitting!
We'd like to buy a 'temporary' cot and high chair that we'll use for the 3 months or so it'll take our stuff to arrive. Does anyone have a wooden cot in very good condition (standard size as we'll buy a new mattress) that they're looking to sell? Also, does anyone have a high chair in very good condition with a 5 point safety harness for sale. We have relatives in NZ who could collect for us in the Auckland region.
And if anyone knows of any good baby shops please, please let us know!
Kind regards
Rochelle and Neil :)

Hi Lindsey
Thanks for your reply. We've been keeping our eye on trademe but we thought we'd post on here as well. I don't really know many NZ baby brands and figured anyone from the UK selling baby things will probably be selling a brand I'd recognise. I'm not into 'label brands', just looking for a company I know I can trust.

Yes I Know what you mean, I'm sill tring to find baby shops that compare, if you were going to be closer you could have borrow mine as I wont be needing it until June, maybe someone else on here may be closer that could lend you some stuff until your stuff arrives or have you tried the Plunket page, not sure if they do the sort f stuff you need & haven't had chance to contact them myself yet but I know they do some kind of loan service
Good Luck

Hi,
What I suggest is buy a good travel cot over here as they will be cheaper and take it on the plane with you (Ithink they let baby goiod travel free but check with the airline. Then when you goods come you will be able to sell it on trade me. I sold my used cot on trademe it was over 12 years old, still in good nick and I got a decent price for it.

Have a look through this thread

and there is also the option of hiring baby stuff once you are here.

If you don't have any luck on here, then Trade Me really is a good idea and you will actually find a lot of the stuff is UK brand being sold by expats. When in the cot/highchair section you can always search for 'Mothercare' or other brand you are happy with. You can also ask what brand it is by making use of the question section if they don't say.
If you're just unsure about buying a second hand cot - sight unseen, then I think Jo B's idea is a good one of buying a travel cot, always useful and will fetch a good price on trade me when you no longer need it. Sometimes you can actually get more than you paid for it, check on TM which brands sell for a good price.
Have your baby sleep in the travel cot for a few weeks before going so its familiar. Baby sleeping bags are great for use in travel cots and useful on the plane also.
Depending on the age of the baby you can use one of those fabric seats that you attach to a normal chair, not a long term solution but great for travel and visiting houses without kiddie stuff. Once again, practice before you go and use it with a catch all bib. Although its probably not as much an issue of buying a second hand high chair.
Places where I've bought baby stuff in NZ, all fine:
Farmers - department store ( www.farmers.co.nz )
www.babyfactory.co.nz
www.stoffels.co.nz
Other places I have bookmarked but not used:
www.babystar.co.nz
www.babystuff.co.nz
www.babyuniverse.co.nz
The range in NZ is not very extensive but this will give you an idea of costs to compare to secondhand or hiring.
Cheers
Tia

Thanks Tia for the shops, I needed those.
I would check & maybe get in writting Rochelle from the airline you travel with that you wont be charged an excess fee if you take your full luggage allowance, we went through LA with full allowance of 6 cases & although they took the carseat & buggy without any problems at Heathrow in LA we had to take the carseat to the airplane door & in Auckland we were charged for excess baggage which annoyed me somewhat, wont be a problem if your stopping at Auckland
