Hi All,

Having lived on a small holding, I know the grass was always greener over the septic tank :roll

I have been lurking on this forum since October last year when Telecom NZ got hold of my CV and called me down to London for an interview. It didn't end in a job offer, but now there are others on the horizon and it just won't go away :o We moved to the UK from South Africa 7 years ago, and I must say that we are quite happy with our new life and weren't really looking to move again. However, my wife and I are suckers for adventure (and the kids are dead keen to move too, but not anywhere else in the UK) and while a move to New Zealand will still be challenging it sounds like a fair idea, and won't be nearly as traumatic as the initial move here. It's probably our last chance this year as my daughter is in year 10 and to move any later will probably cause problems with Uni and international student fees etc.???

I am just worried that we think there will be a huge difference between life here and NZ and may be a little dissapointed? In 7 years we have built ourselves up from nothing into a very respectable and fairly comfortable life. My wife is also just about to finish her PGCE (Maths teacher years 7 - 12) and the kind people at Teach NZ said that she would really struggle to find a job in NZ "as she would be competing with all the NZ students who can't get a job"? Now if that's true, howcome are there such skills shortages? Anyway, that's not so much of an issue as we should be able to live on my income judging from Avalons epic finance post (thanks Avalon :clap ) which would give her time to settle down.

Just having a hernia over the costs for the medicals and having to get police clearances from here and SA

Anyway, lots of great help and info on this sight. May be along to ask questions in the next few weeks depending on job offers.

Hi,

That does sound quite odd. I was talking to an ex-Maths teacher the other day, he said that NZ has a shortage of maths/physics teachers....same as heaps of other places in the world I suppose.
I'm really not qualified to say, but I would be truly amazed if a qualified maths teacher could not find work in NZ!

Welcome to the forum

Can't answer your question on teaching, sure it wouldn't be on the short skills if there wasn't a need for them.:uhoh

Hope you find all the answers you need I'm sure you will.

as regards teaching, hubby was offered a job through www.oasis-edu.co.nz within a month of his first contact with them. I think your wife should find a teaching job quite easily.

Good luck & who knows if the grass is really greener; I'm sure you're up for the adventure though.

Regards, Fi.

As a maths teacher she'll be in extremely high demand. Any area you like. And I think there's an incentive allowance in there somewhere too. YOu may need to check that out. I wouldn't set too much store by the TeachNZ info.

yes, lockstock is right - Hubby is getting a $4000 relocation allowance.
