Hello, hope I,ve managed to post this in the right place!!!
We're thinking of taking the plunge (quite seriously) and want to come over to NZ to look around. Fitting it in with special birthdays and kids exams takes us to the six weeks holidays - July/August. We're looking at the Christchurch area but will the weather be not in our favour! Want the kids to see NZ at its best (as coaxing may be needed for the 14 year old!). Would we be better off waiting till October/November and coming alone? Time seems to be ticking by and we want to check it out as soon as possible really as we don't want our 20 year old to fall in love and not want to leave England!

Hi Gina

Can't give you an answer on Christchurch in the winter (but I'm sure loads of people will). Just wanted to welcome you to the forum and wish you luck!

Welcome to the forum Gina. NZ will not be at it's best in July/August - but it's still beautiful (just think it could onl;y get better!). You will have the advantage of getting some skiing at Mt Hutt, about an hour outside of Chirstchurch, too.

October/November is a very nice time to go though. However, it can still be cold if you're unlucky (just think Apr/May in the northern hemisphere!

Hi Gina

Welcome to the forum. I can only speak for Hamilton but July/August are probably not the best months to come out. Although it doesn't get as cold as the UK in winter (up here on N.I.) the heating leaves a lot to be desired so you may well feel colder when indoors, unless you're planning on staying in hotels where I assume they will have some heating.

April/May is still quite nice if you could get out here earlier or Oct/Nov is warmer.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thank you for all the warm welcomes. What a wonderful forum site full of friendly people. I was up till 1.30am last night jumping from one thread to another. It is such interesting reading. Then when I finally got to bed my head was buzzing! Thanks again!

Hi gina,
Welcome to the forum- I too am relatively new to it, and I too sit up till all hours at night, pouring through all the very informative threads. I have never had an "addictive" personality up until now!!
Good luck
Mignon
