Hi everyone
My name is Gerhard, and my partner's name is Johan. We have decided that the time has come to make the Big Move, and NZ is our first choice. I have already found a wealth of valuable information on this site, whoever started it, thank you very much.
I have one concern, and that is my employability in NZ. I have a masters degree in Statistics, and for the last 6 years I have been working in Investment Banking. My first three years I worked in an IT environment, supporting trading systems (lots of database sql and unix work). Then I moved on to quantitative analysis, lots of matlab programming, simulation and number crunching. I now work for a different bank, exactly one year, also quantitative analysis but in the risk department.
Now, I see NZ has a lot of job oppurtunities, but I don't know what to call myself! I am not a doctor, or a lawyer, or a nanny or a chef. How do I classify myself? I have always seen myself as a problem solver, and have various IT skills and so forth, but I can't say "I am a Java, or C++ programmer" or whatnot. Anyone with advise?
Thanks
Gerhard
