Well, the wireless installation didn't go well. I got almost all through the setup & config process, then accidentally clicked a button before I had finished reading the screen.... it shot off and did something, then came back with an error and said I had to start again...

Only problem... my cable broadband is now disabled!!!!! HELP!!!!! :wah

I am typing this in an internet cafe in Wellington. Hmmmm.

I will try again later, and see if I can do the install from scratch again. If not, if anyone has any suggestions, can they please contact Jackie M, as she can relay any messages to me!

Thanks everyone,
Jane

If re-trying the installation doesn't work then I would remove the wireless router from the equation and plug directly back into the cable modem.

Does your broadband work after you do this?

If not, then check the configuration settings of the modem and if all looks ok then try doing a reset of the modem so that it goes back to the factory defaults. Or better still, if you saved your modems configuration settings before you started then restore them now.

If still not working, try the modems installation again and if it still fails then phone your broadband provider and explain that it isn't working and they should be able to guide you to get it working again.

At least then you will have broadband access again.

Once you have broadband back you can then retry the wireless router installation, you can also reset this if necessary.

One last thing that you could also try is select a restore point on Vista prior to installing the wireless router software.

Sorry, can't really advise much else as we don't know what you actually did?

Hi thanks for this!
I had to phone the broadband supplier to help me get it back to the correct settings for broadband again (the IP addresses had changed), so now I have internet again. I will try again with the wireless router, and take each step veerryy slowly.... and if it all fails again at least I now know how to get back to the cable configuration!

Thanks for your help,
Jane

Yes, chances are if you have to reboot the cable modem, you'll get a new IP address. I assume you know how to get your IP address, since you got it working, but if not, send me a PM.
