Hi folks,
Well we thought we would embrace the kiwi 'out door experience' in full and wow what a brill weekend we have had. Last week with some expert help from Jim and Karen we went out and gathered the extra camping stuff we needed to camp out in 'the wild'. Then yesterday after perusing various places that we thought may be good for newbys we set off for Arthurs Pass National Park.
We completed the 'Binser Saddle' walk which is the 'hill' which is sandwiched between the Waimakariri and Poulter rivers. Doing 8k yesterday and 18k today with fab views, fantastic woodland and blistering sunshine. The route was very well marked and so easy to follow :nice1 .
The camp went well - no hiccups with the tent or supplies, and very exciting sleeping in the woods and waking to a dew soaked forest. Reconstituted 'backpackers meal' for dinner, porridge for breakfast and numerous snackettes of homemade flapjack saw us back to the car - tired but smiling.
Ben had a double Boysenberry cornet in Springfield just to recharge his batteries whilst i had a snooze en route (luckily Ben was driving!).
