We are going on a parent sponsorship and have all our paperwork ready, PR granted

We've been reading about the quota scheme for this, and have been wondering how tight the numbers are. Did you have to wait long for your son/daughter's name to come up?

Over on Introductions, I've asked this. Does anybody have any experiences they can share?

Hi J&M. We weren't on the quota scheme as I have the weight of my family (kids that is) in NZ. 2 sons there and one in S Africa so we were granted PR very easily and quickly, so am unable to help you with this one I'm afraid. Are you not able to go on a straight parent sponsorship? I really don't know how the quota system works. Sorry not to be more helpful!

I saw this page http://www.howtolaw.co.nz/html/ml193.asp where it talks about going into a ballot if your adult child sponsors you. I think I've seen it mentioned elsewhere, too, but now I'm hurriedly looking, of course I can't find it.

Straight parent sponsorship? How long ago did you move to NZ?

Sorry to be an idiot - of course you've said you're not gone yet!

So your approval must be quite recent, then? And you haven't heard of this quota thing from your sponsoring son?

Here's another site that gave me a similar impression, that it might be a bit pot luck.

You may not find too many answers to this because there were none available in 2007.

The number of places available under the Family Quota Category is announced by the Minister of Immigration each year. As there are no places available under the Family Quota in 2007, there will be no registration period for the period 1 July 2006 to 30 June 2007.

I can't find it on the website which is a good sign, but it is likely that there will be none for 2008 as well. If you are considering this option then I would contact NZIS to find out whether they are accepting applications this year?

Thanks, Ian.

Are you thinking of NZIS here in the UK, or over there? (Is there any advantage either way?)

AFAIK, it doesn't matter which one you contact, they are both as good (and as bad) as each other from our experience.

Hi again. If you qualify for parent sponsorship then the quota system does not apply to you. We applied in Feb 2007 and were granted PR in April 2007. We have our blue stickers and have to be there by end of May 2008 and have full residence. PM me if you need more details and I will find the appropriate links for you.

Just to confirm what has been said above.
Parent sponsorship and family quota are 2 seperate ways to apply. If I remember correctly, there is no quota for PR via parent sponsorship - hope I have this right as my MiL applies in 8 weeks.

Thanks very much. Good luck to your m-i-l for her application.

Thanks, and good luck to you as well. I know you have been waiting for this moment for a while.
MiL is about 6 weeks away as well - 17th March I think is the 3 year date.

We finally received sis-in-laws documents for the extra 10 points and I got the date wrong - its the 18th.
There seem to be a few other co-incidences:
You must have received your residence at the same time as my sis-in-law
Your parents and my OH mum are applying for sponsorship at the same time
Your brother and me are applying for PR about the same time.
Oh, we are heading for ChCh as well.-looked at Rolleston area, but will start in Parklands.

Weird. Are you another me visiting from a parallel universe?
