I have searched the forum but I was just wondering which banks people have used that you can open from the UK before you go.

This is in antisipation (? sp - looks like constipation!!) of selling our house - not holding breath.

Did someone mention commonwealth bank? or something similar

Thanks Guys

Most banks have a migrant banking section.

We did ours with ASB which is Commonwealth Bank of Australia in London.

You can get the forms online. www.asb.co.nz

We also used ASB bank, here is their UK website http://www.migrantbanking.co.uk/

They keep the UK account open for 2 years so you can easily transfer money to NZ during that time.

They will also set up the account in NZ, so that you can just go into any ASB branch in NZ with identification and start using the facilities straight away.

Thanks guys.
Had a quick look and seems straightforward enough.

And saved to 'favourites' this time

I used Westpac, on recommendation from others in the forum. They had a UK number that goes direct to their migrant banking team in Auckland, which was convenient when my transfer seemed to have gone astray.

Hi

The only bank that seemed to want to help when we were living in the Uk, was National Bank.

I applied online and had an instant reply! On entering NZ, we had to go to the Bank with the necessary ID such as passports and proof my hubby had a job, and our cards were waiting for us. We also applied whilst there for a credit card, and although we were on 1yr work visas at the time, we were instantly given $5000, unfortunately at 20.+% a month, but it was just an added extra whilst money was being transferred across.

They helped us with our mortgage, again on a higher rate as we were on work visas.

We have since changed to Westpac, as, as i work for Hawkes Bay DHB, they have an allround better package. We changed our mortgage over, and had a savings account opened, and offer of transferring our National credit card over to them at 9.?%- which of course we jumped at.

We find Westpac a lot better to be honest! Our financial advisor at the bank is always approachable and always rings you back the same day too!!!
