Our 7 year old cat didn't come home last night... I was heartbroken when my wife called me at work this morning to say she'd found him in the village at the roadside.

At least the person who hit him was good enough to wrap him in a blanket and placed him in a cardboard box. I feel for our 5 year old son, we'll have to break the news to him this evening... there'll be a few tears for sure.

He was a well travelled cat... born in Cheshire, moved to Lincolnshire, back to Cheshire, over to France last year and back to Lincolnshire. We were planning on taking him with us to NZ, he'll be missed... onwards and upwards :roll

Oh such a shame. I lost one the same way some years ago, after 2 weeks of worry. At least you didn't have to wait long to find out, and there must be some comfort in at least knowing for sure.

Sorry to hear about your cat, and I hope your little boy doesn't take the news too badly. I'm sure he'll need an extra cuddle tonight.

... thanks to all for the kind words, just goes to show what a good community spirit the forum has.

Our little boy took the news fairly well this evening, although we're sure there will be more tears along the way once he notices the cat's feeding bowl and play mice are not in the usual place.

Jules... really hope you receive good news at finding your cat, good luck.

Thanks again all, it's much appreciated.

Simon, how awful, I really feel for you. It's horrible when you have that space where your cat used to be...

Jules - good luck, I hope he turns up safe and sound. Please let us know how you get on...

Hi Jules, I hope your cat comes home soon. One of our cats disappeared for a few days at Christmas - we did a leaflet drop and put up posters, and advertised on Pets on the Net, too. One night he just sauntered home, safe and sound - I hope your cat does, too.

Sorry to hear about your pudditat, Simon, I know the feeling.

We lost our maddest, most unique, most-attached-to-me, border collie last year in December. I haven't cried like that since I was a child!

So sorry to read about your cat, when we got home in january 2006 from London with our blue stickers in passport, we found our cat of not even 3 years old very sick. After 2 months and many Vet visits we had to have him put to 'sleep'. Turned out it was FIP (Feline Intestine Peritonitis) for which there is no cure. It still hurts, even tho we also have two dogs that came with us, I still miss the 'cat space' which was filled up so well by our boy.

Since we're in a rental (with heavy woolly carpets) we've not gotten another cat yet, and hubby doesnt even want one any more! The kids and me would like to have one again, some time in the not too far future...

Jules I hope your cat returns, maybe he had some Spring air in his nose?
