Hello all,

Having read an earlier thread about whether it is cost effective to ship stuff to NZ, I was wondering whether those of you who are already settled in NZ could advise the rest of us on what is actually worth while bringing to NZ? We are shipping stuff in a large container (from Canada) that is being paid for by my OH's future employer, so we would like to ship as much stuff as possible in order to fill the container up and possibly save money on arrival in New Zealand.

It would be great if someone could list any furniture or other household items which are usually expensive in New Zealand, so that we can work out what is essential to bring with us and what could be purchased at a reasonable price once over in kiwi land.

We brought everything! Lounge furniture, dining table and chairs, bedroom furniture (although not the boys as they needed new ones), electrical items (tv, stereo etc.) and all pots and pans, crockery, cutlery etc. Basically anything that was allowed. Some things were built in to the kitchen so we couldn't bring those (like the fridge/freezer).

If we had anything that was on its last legs we didn't bring that, e.g. our kettle had a couple of dents in and we knew we'd need one before our container arrived, so just bought one here on arrival.

If you have any favourite toiletries, make-up etc, stock up beforehand and bring it with you!

Also clothes and underwear...
