I am filling out our EOI. We have 110 points without a job offer. I would like to obtain job offers before submitting EOI to increase our points.
My question is how long does the employer hold that job for you? I see people taking months and some cases even a year to get everything in order and visas returned.
I am trying to figure out a timeline and what I should be doing when. Should we be doing NZQA stuff now? Does this have to be done before submitting the EOI?
I am sure others have asked, I am just not finding it on the search function.
Thank you for the info!

first we did our EOI
then we moved here got jobs
Got work permits enabling us to work without EOI processed.
EOI processed and took 8 months to get PR
Not sure when you do NZQA if your job requires it even for work permit. Someone else will know.
If you submit your EOI without job offer it will still be processed if you are pulled out and will take longer than those who have job offers.
Start getting police check and work references together now it takes forever to get those things in hand.

The answer question varies on who the employer is, your hiring manager and how hard it is of a skill set you have that they have to fill. In my case being hired as a Sr Test Analyst (IT), resources for them to choose from are scarce. I was offered work on 5/5/07, I accepted on 10/5/07. I was supposed to start on 18/6/07 as I was moving to NZ from Seattle.
I went the 30 Month WTR Visa route first on the advice of the NZ Consulate General in LA. My visa paperwork should have taken less than a week. It took 2 months to get approved due to a snag caused by my doctor's mistake. My employer was getting anxious after my start date passed by 2 weeks late. They waited for me. In your case, it's hard to know.... Whatever the case may be, you might want to take the 30 month *WTR* route as it's faster than the PR route. Then once you are here working and have passed your NZ medicals, police checks, and etc, getting your PR from there should be just a lot of paperwork and money (aka - red tape).
*The catch with the WTR visa route, is you need to have a verifiable perm job offer already from a NZ employer to get a 30 month WTR visa. For this my friend, you either need to take a reccy trip to NZ and chase down a job offer (as I and many of us here did), or magically secure one over the phone & get it in writing as a few people have managed to do (more power to them!).
*One other way, requires someone's help who's already in NZ! A NZ Perm Resident or NZ Citizen must sponsor you in a partnership or family sponsored-work visa that will allow you to move to NZ without a job & a work visa/permit in your hand.
Yeah I know your eyes are rolling like 'oh gawd!', but we all had to deal with this. You can do it, just put your mind to it and get your BLUE STICKERS! :nice1
Good luck!
