Just occurred to me that lots of you come over here on reccies maybe we should start a holiday house swap scheme.

You tell the dates and someone maybe interested in a holiday in your home town in exchange for using there home in NZ. I know there are companies that do this all over the world.

if I was thinking of going to the UK for 2 weeks it would be ideal if someone lived my home town in Reading or near by, who was due to come out and wanted to be in Welly but we do have 145 steps up to the house now so not so appealing, views are great though.

I think it's a great idea and not just for people doing reccies for families. My parents are devastated we are going to NZ. They are both retired so have time on their hands but are concerned about the cost of visiting if we were lacking room to put people up or visitors wanted more privacy and independence. They live in a gorgeous place in France just on the outskirts of Bergerac on the Dordogne and I know my mum at least would be up for a house swap if anyone in NZ fancied a trip to France. It can work out so cost effective. Kim

We have done over 21 house swaps, all very successful and a fantastic way to get to know a new area without it breaking the bank. Our last one was 6 months to Sicily (wish we'd done it to NZ then maybe we would have got a job and not be struggling so much now!).
yes lots of organisations on line do them but watch out as some of them charge quite high joining fees. Can be arranged privately but I'd suggest drawing up a contract before hand to be clear about bills etc.
