Has anyone flown with Singapore Airlines in recent times, and do they give one ''Stockings'' for D.V.T. , or does one need to buy them before flying?
I'm going from Manchester UK, to Singapore on the 1st Of March for a holiday.
Thanks in anticipation. ddiggs:raebanana

... we're flying out from Manchester on 30th March for our 3 week 'recce' trip, can't answer your question as we haven't used Singapore Airlines before, however I'm sure they could answer your question if you call their helpline number... seem to recall it'll be on your confirmation receipt.
Enjoy your holiday :cheers

When I flew with singapore (may 07) one had to buy ones own DVT stockings (but they did give out some nifty purple socks for inflight comfort)

Never used the word "one" in a sentence like that before in my life but I thought it somehow appropriate given the polite way in which the question was asked;) ;) :laugh

Hi ddiggs
We flew Singapore Air in December and can confirm CityBlue is right - no DVTs but 'nifty' purple socks. Kim

... should be pointed out that the socks in no way help circulation though. very flimsy. overall experience with singapore was good, unless you need a special meal - my mum has a gluten-free diet and they gave her a bit of hard-boiled chicken breast, sodden veg and nasty marg rather than butter although there's no reason why she couldn't have butter. bizarre. even eating regular meals we thought the food on the whole wasn't great, so will take more of our own next time.
sorry, seem to have gone off at a bit of a tangent, but thought it might help.

have flown with cathay pacific, air nz, emirates and singapore and rate singapore air the best.
They don't supply the socks just some little ones to keep the feet warm. We always take a very small dose of asprin for a few days before flying as have been told it helps (whether it does or not!!) and I make a practice of moving around as much as I can on the flight (easy for me as I am not very good at sitting still anyway)

Yep it prevents the blood from clotting and possibly forming a DVT or pulmonary embolus.
Move around as much as you can and do some exercises in your seat too, all those wiggling your feet ones are good. :nice1

flew with Singapore Airlines November/December and we bought our stockings from boots £14 a pair nice black numbers. The airline provide very nifty purple socks but they then tell you not to remove your shoes during the flight in the safety blurb...........go figure...........:exit

Guess someone should point out that asprin is not suitable for everyone especially those with ulcers so if you don't normally take asprin you should check first.

Apparently, standard DVT socks are not so good anyway as they don't work properly unless they are fitted exactly for you.
I would just try to wander around the plane. If it's a daytime flight that will be easy enough as there's heaps of great views.

Thanks for those answers, yes my doctor told me to take an asprin before flying as I have had heart surgery Dec 03. quadruple bypass, and guess wot, I got my ''stockings'' for ''free'' on presciption, cos I have to take so many heart pills I have a certificate that gives me my drugs, and related items, of which the stocking are one.

Why do you need to adapt your socks if going international :) Do you need special European adapters with smaller holes in too??:D
