Yippeeeee, Telecoms workers are now listed in their own category on the Long Term Skills Shortage List. (At last!!!)

It comes under Professional Occupations as Telecommunications Engineering Professionals. ANZSCO code 263311 and 263312.

This has done wonders for our EOI points and we hope to submit it at last once our NZQA report comes back. (Awaiting assessment of husbands Btec OND)

Just thought I would share this info and hope it helps others.

Wouldn't this be more for those high up in a company not really the guys on the ground doing the engineering?


EDIT: Well I have slapped it in the EOI on the off chance to see how my points pan out and it takes them from 130 to 155. Hopefully I am eligable to claim them. If I am then I will be submitting EOI very soon unless OH has another wobble.

It says five years experience may substitute for the qualification. Tomo, I don't understand how you have that many points unless you have a degree or a job offer, I thought you didn't have a job as yet or am I wrong? Just trying to work things out as I need a job offer to get enough points.

ID 30 points (just under 30 for 7 more months!)
Recognised quals 65 points (if they accept them)
Work experience 40 points
Partners quals 20 points

155 points if I count the telecommunications engineer points. Which I have been doing for 10 years but can only gain proof for just over 8. Although I have been told they might not accept my army experience even though I worked on telecoms every day of my life in the army.
As for the job I am just waiting for a telephone interview but I fear things may have slowed down.

So while it looks like I have a healthy 155 points with no job offer, I might not be able to claim the LTSS ones so it's 130, plus if they poo poo my City and Guilds, and dispute my work experience then I absolutely will need a job offer.

I have half convinced the OH that the time is right to submit EOI before the next selection.
We will have a long chat about it after the outlaws have been to eat their fish. (Not my tropicals! :O)
