My son has just put a second hard drive into our pc, and replaced xp with vista, is vista going to be compatible enough with everything once we get there, or should I ask Him to put xp back on??
Thanks

Get XP put back on. Vista is a power hungry monster, and has many problems with compatibility at the moment.

Working in the IT Field, and owning both an XP and Vista machine, both are fine, Vista is a little bit more intense when it comes to power requirements, but overall is now a solid system after SP1. XP, is good, and will continue to be good for years to come.
If you able to install XP, I'd say go for it.

ndheah, Vista SP1 is not scheduled for release to general public till March.
I'd put XP on, it's more reliable. Vista crashes on me a lot, and despite many hours of patient disgnosing, I've been unable to get Windows Update to work (and I know what I'm doing). I can't even manually install the SP1 release candidate from a stand-alone installer!

Answering the question asked then yes vista is fine in NZ and you won't have any vista specific issues that you wouldn't already have in the UK (for vista).
But I agree with others that if you have a choice then vista just doesn't do it yet and IMO should be avoided until they have actually finished testing it!
I'm still amazed that you if you give it the three fingered salute (ctrl-alt-delete) it may not respond to it anymore???

If you have a good broadband connection (for all the updates!) then Vista's not too bad, but if I had the choice I'd re-install XP.
