3 weeks after my interview and despite several emails saying how well it went and that an offer was likely, I get an email saying the permament position is now only temporary and they will be in contact if this changes. I take this to mean no job offer. Boo-hoo big time; we'd really got our hopes up and now feel SO disappointed and mis-led.
Trying to stay positive but very hard. It all seemed to be slipping into place, but now not to be. Back to the applications for a while longer it seems.

Sorry to hear that.:wah

Got to think positive and that its not meant to be as something better will soon be round the corner.

Was the job 4 a particular school and did you know its circumstances or was it an agancy interview?

For a pre-school. There is a real catch 22 situation; recent govt. legislation says staff have to hold an Early Childhhood Qualification but no UK qual. is equivalent. To study the one yr diploma is very expensive. There are loads of ECE jobs but unless you have this particular qual. you can't get any of the jobs as the pre-schools won't get the funding from Min. of Education!

What a pain! So sorry. With the UK qualifications you've got, is there something sort of overlapping the pre-school set up you could try for? - reception class of school, or child care without the education element, say?

Frustrating or what? It just means there's a better one on offer somewhere else. You'll get here. Don't worry. Good luck.:yes

Thank you guys for comisserations but HOW will we get to NZ? Can't seem to get a teaching post and can't get an ECE post either, as no Uk qual. is comparable. Our friends are still keen to buy our house and be in by July, so then what do we do? With 3 kids it seems too big a risk to up and off with no guarantee of a job.......can't see a way ATM....even if we are prepared to pay to study for the ECE one year graduate diploma which would probably get me a job, the pay is not enough to live on....unbelievable really as you need a first degree then another of study and then its less than $29 a yr!

AHGHGH!

From my little time looking in to this and with similar probs of uprooting children too, I feel that one of us, if not both would need to take a trip back to NZ to secure a job rather than wait. Teaching is not one of the easiest jobs to secure with a telephone interview!
Don't lose hope, where there is a will there is a way and if you do want this enough you will succeed.:)

Sorry to hear your news!

Something will come along, i understand you are probably well cheesed off, i would be. My mum always had a saying 'when one door closes, another always opens' and i do believe that - there is something there for you, just have to wait a little longer!!

Hugs!!

Carey...Have you got your quals assessed b y NZQA?...who has told you that the UK quals have no equivalents over here, I have heard of lots of people who are from the UK, who have had their quals assessed by NZQA, then applied to the teaching council for registration.
What qualification do you have?
If you qualifications are only part way towards teaching qual, I believe the teaching council can put you on a 'provisional' teaching license, so you can be employed and complete a professional development file to gain full registration. The setting that employ you can gain funding for you if you go down this route...a 'support type' of funding...they can put it towards maybe a computer you may use for study ( but they keep!) or maybe some resources for an activity you want to complete with the children, or maybe a training course you need to go on to enhance your knowledge in a particular area.
I am still fairly new to the EY system over here...so bear with me.,...Im sure someone will correct me if I am wrong!!! BUT I am sure there is a way you can get a job...there is always a way around these things!

PM if you'd like anymore info

Carey - sorry it was bad news :(

not much consolation but just wanted to say that I'm sure if you did have to go the long way round (a trip to NZ to secure job) I'd bet you'd have no problem securing a job in person :)

Sorry it wasn't good news Carey. Not nice to say probably job offer and then change their mind either.

Is it worth taking another look at what your OH does in conservation and seeing if there is anything there.
We initially applied with me as main applicant about two years ago, withdrew it and reapplied with OH as main just recently. I think you can change the main applicant in during the process too - I'm sure they asked if we wanted to do that the first time.

best wishes

Mels
